About Us

We are a small voluntary disabled charity "Wheelers and Wobblers Sports and Social Club" (registered charity number 1041688)

Our aim is to improve the life and well being of our members, whatever the disability, through sports and social activities.

Our group is made up of people with many disabilities, ranging from blind / deaf people through to a number of various physical and learning disabilities. Many are wheelchair users, hence our title "Wheelers and Wobblers", indeed most of our committee come into this category.

At the moment, although we are small, we can boast to having had several regional and national disabled bowls, boccia, billiards and snooker champions in our ranks. Our bowls teams compete in able bodied local leagues.

It is a challenge for us to find activities that all, or most of, our group can participate in and this occurs the added burden to our volunteers of finding the money to support such a variety of needs.

We are self-funded and try to ease the costs of participating in events by subsidising entry fees, helping towards transport and subsistence costs etc. We encourage integration through activities and run training from our Stanley Community Centre base.

In general we offer a balanced mix of education, fun and physical activity in a friendly environment to encourage integration and participation of our members.
