Learn the Beekeepers' Craft. Wakefield and Pontefract beekeepers' association invite you to become a beekeeper. During late spring and early summer the WPBKA organise a course in basic beekeeping at Woolley college on the outskirts of Wakefield.
Welcome to the online presence of the Wakefield and Pontefract beekeepers' association, we hope to provide relevant information for those of you who keep bees, those of you who would like to keep bees and those of you who would like to get in touch with beekeepers for the purposes of crop pollination, bulk honey purchases, beeswax and propolis products and the safe and humane removal of swarms. Meetings We meet on the last Monday of the month from September to March (no meeting in December), in the Methodist Chapel at Newmillerdam, Barnsley Road, Wakefield. If you are coming from the direction of Wakefield it is the first building after the Newmillerdam car park and is very easy to find. The meetings commence at 7:30pm and usually go on until 9:00pm with guest speakers who are involved with beekeeping in one way or another, refreshments are served during the course of the evening. All are welcome and the years of accumulated knowledge
stored up in the senior members make it very easy for beginners to get their questions answered and problems solved.
During the summer months meetings are held at members apiaries where novice beekeepers can see first hand some of the various techniques used by experienced beekeepers to control swarming and maximise honey production, followed by refreshments and lots of bee talk.
