Wakefield & District RSPB Local Group

Wakefield & District Local RSPB Group is affiliated to the national RSPB. The group welcomes members from anywhere within the district as well as anyone who lives close to the boundary including those who are not RSPB members. As a group we promote the RSPB and support its activities through raising awareness, education and fund raising.
We are active as a local group and hold indoor and outdoor meetings. The indoor meetings are held at Ossett Community Centre from September to April with a speaker giving the group a talk. The topics vary enormously with the themes ranging from a local to an international flavour but all are of great interest.
The outdoor meeting are usually car visits and take place on the Sunday following the indoor meeting. For both indoor and outdoor meetings anybody is welcome to come along and find out more before deciding if they would like to join.
In addition we actively support local initiatives to enhance and improve bird populations. These have included advising farmers about set-aside and grants, putting up nest- boxes and taking a lead role in improving the habitat for tree- sparrows. We also give talks to interested groups.
