Club History

Club History image Wakefield Phoenix Netball Club was formed in 1991 by two sisters (Hazel Agnew and Alison Dennison) from the ashes of Dewsbury Netball Club. Both sisters have retired from the game and the club, but there are a number of players who still remain from those early days. Several have encouraged their daughters to take up the game and they now play and train for the junior club.

Wakefield Phoenix NC achieved England Netball Gold CAPS (Club Action Planning Scheme) and Clubmark Award in October 2004. This award outlines the club's commitment to be safe, effective and child friendly. In line with the Clubmark award, CAPS focuses on key areas that impact on netball clubs: Duty of Care and Child Protection, Coaching and Competition, Club Management/ Administration, Enhanced School-Club Links, Recruitment and Volunteer Development, Sports Equity and Ethics.

Every four years the club submits its CAPS folder of evidence to England Netball. In November 2012 they again passed their Gold Re-accreditation.
