Wakefield Movie Makers

A picture for Wakefield-Movie-Makers

Wakefield Movie Makers was established in 1961. Our members enjoy taking part in the making of amateur video or cine films. Some films are made solely by a member and usually edited on computer. Others are made using a group of our members working together. A wide range of films are made over the course of the year, and during the year a number of competitions are held with trophies for the winners of the various categories. We also enjoy inter-club competitions. The filming of many important local events are recorded for the city archives in an annual newsreel. We have our own small comfortable cinema, where members can sit and enjoy the results of a very satisfying and interesting hobby.

We meet weekly at Clarendon Street, Wakefield near the junction of Lower York Street and Pinderfields Road, every Thursday at 7.30pm-10pm, for directions and map check out our 'How to find us' link. Free car parking available on site. If you are interested in joining our club, you are welcome to come along for two or three meetings before applying for membership. Our members have varying degrees of experience as film makers, and beginners and aspiring students of media studies are always made welcome. Equipment is available for loan to members.

Being a film maker is not a necessary condition of membership, however, and non-film-making audience members and budding film critics, actors and scriptwriters are equally welcome!

Membership is 8 per annum, with a 1 club night charge to cover refreshments.
