Regional AGM Saturday July 7 Leeds Civic Hall (11 to 4pm)

The meeting will kick start the 2 year European campaign with invited speaker Peter Cranie, lead European candidate for the North West in 2009 and 2014. Peter spearheaded a strong campaign targeting Nick Griffin and the BNP in 2009. Plus a training session on how best to use Facebook, Twitter etc in your campaigning. Please put this date in your diary - more information in the next newsletter which will be mailed around 22 June.

Selection of candidates for the European Election in 2014

In 2009 we got 8.5% in the European election in the region when 10.2% would have elected an MEP (and kept the BNP out). An increasing percentage of votes is now going to non mainstream parties so this is an election we can win.

A reminder of the election timetable for the region :

2012

- Mid June : Nominations open for top 2 candidates on the list by notice in the regional newsletter

- Sep 30 : Nominations close

- October to November : Hustings held around the region ending with regional meeting no later than end of November. Local parties to be encouraged to hold hustings and a hustings to be filmed and available for access by local parties and members

- Early to Mid November : Ballot papers and candidate statements sent out with regional newsletter. Nominations open for positions 3 to 6 on the list in the newsletter.

2013

- January 7 Ballot closes.

- March 31 : Nominations close for positions 3 to 6

- June : Candidate profiles sent out with regional newsletter

- July : Regional AGM finalises the candidate list

So anyone who wants to be an MEP should be thinking about it now ahead of nominations opening in mid June. A job description can be forwarded on request. Expressions of interest would be welcomed as it is likely to be helpful for prospective candidates to attend officers meetings prior to the selection process starting.

You can also help us by submitting a nomination to be further down the list in positions 3 to 6. The aim will be to select a balanced list in terms of gender and ethnicity. You have more time to think about those nominations see timetable above.
