Wakefield Concert Society

Our most recent season ended with a very successful concert by the Hallam Sinfonia and Tim Horton (piano). We hope to continue this success into the new season beginning in October 2016. The Society is run by a small but dedicated voluntary committee. The Society promotes six concerts of high quality live classical music each season which runs from October to March 2017. All concerts are held on Saturdays in the Jubilee Hall at Wakefield Girls High School starting at 7.30 p.m.

We aim for a wide mix of instruments and programmes, incorporating well- known and loved pieces and introducing audiences to some lesser known works. All our artists are of a high professional standard, some with international reputations, particularly our opening piano recital by Benjamin Frith. As in previous season we also encourage younger artists who are at an early stage in their careers. In addition to The Cassia String Quartet, we have a guitar and flute Duo and a wind trio of oboe, clarinet and bassoon. Unusually this season we also have a vocal concert with a rare performance of Schubert's Die Schone Mullerin - Song Cycle. For more information please look at details of individual concerts.

Since the beginning a loyal core membership of season-ticket holders has provided the stability needed and we are also grateful for the support of a number of patrons. The Society has not received any external funding support but we are extremely grateful for the support provided by a number of local companies and we acknowledge this support in our publicity. Despite these uncertain times, the committee looks to the future in good heart and is always pleased to welcome new audience members. More information is available either from Chris Pearman on 01924 371546 or Ann Kendall on 01924 378349 or by emailing ALKendall@aol.com. The Society also has a website www.wakefieldconcertsociety.co.uk and now has a presence on Facebook under Wakefield Concerts.
