June 2008

Following the Annual General Meeting
which took place in April this year I

successful year for the Society and I
know that the Committee will once again
work hard to support our Producer

60th Anniversary Celebrations
As many of you will be aware this year
the Society is celebrating 60 years of
Panto and
the Committee are already starting to
plan the celebrations.
Roy Gunson has kindly agreed to put a
display in the Museum later in the
year and
would welcome any photos or information
relating to the Society.
Roy can be contacted at
rgunson@tiscali.co.uk or tel: 01977
794563.
Panto 2009
Once again we are delighted that
Barbara Arundell has agreed to produce
the next Pantomime which is:
When: 12th – 17th January 2009
Where: Pontefract Town Hall
In order to try and boost ticket sales,
we would like to increase the opening
hours of the Booking Office to include
Wednesday and Friday Mornings as well
as all day Saturday from the end of
November through until January but this
can only be done with the help of our
members.
We hope that at least some members of
the Society could spare just a couple
of hours (or even one!) between
November and January to help staff the
Booking Office on one of the required
days. This will give more opportunity
to the general public to be able to
purchase tickets to see the show.
With the ever increasing costs incurred
by the Society such as the Town Hall,
First Aid provision, costumes and
scenery etc it is becoming more and
more important for us to sell out of
tickets, but this can only be done with
the help of all our members (not just
the cast), so please don’t leave it to
everyone else, do your bit and help if
you can!
You can contact the Ticket Secretary,
Julie Mosley on 01977 677980 or
Assistant Ticket Secretary Eric
Arundell on 01977 795904 for more
information or alternatively inform the
Membership Secretary that you are able
to help and Julie or Eric will contact
you.
Children in the Society
As some of you are already aware WMDC
have imposed new standards upon all
Societies to meet legislation relating
to Children performing in shows. To
prevent parents being required to apply
for individual licences the Society
plans to comply with exemption
processes, but as a result there is a
significant increase in the
administration procedures we have to go
through in order to allow those under
the age of 16 to perform.
Our Secretary, Joanne Sykes will be
contacting all parents/guardians of
those under 16 to explain the new
procedures/requirements and it is
important that you read the information
as a matter of urgency then complete
and return the documentation in the
time limit specified.
If you do not return the documentation
by the specified deadline your child
may not be allowed to attend rehearsals
and perform in the show as the
appropriate exemption may not be
received in time.
Costume Storage
In the last newsletter we indicated
that a new storage area was to be
sourced for the Societies costumes,
however we are pleased to say that this
is now not necessary in the immediate
future as Tom and Mollie Dixon have
agreed we can continue to store
costumes at Narrowbeck Farm for the
foreseeable future.
Annual Subscriptions
Membership fees for the year April
2008 – 2009 are now due and our
Membership Secretary will be contacting
everyone to remind you of this.
It is a requirement of the Society that
all cast members are a Member / Patron
of the Society or for those under 16 a
parent/guardian must be a Member or

. . . . but you don’t have to be in
