Hafla and Yorkshire Conference 2010

The Yorkshire Soroptimist conference was held in Wakefield this year, chaired by 2009-10 SI Yorkshire President and SI Wakefield member Mrs Judith Alce. Preceeding the conference was an Egyptian style 'Hafla', evening event with live music, buffet and traditional belly dance demonstrations. Pictured are Wakefield club members supporting our Yorkshire president at the event.

75th Charter Dinner 2009

SI Wakefield celebrated its 75th anniversary since its founding in 1934 with a special Charter Dinner at Blenheim House in Batley on the 28th February 2009. The Club was delighted to welcome the Mayoress of Wakefield and her consort, and the SI Yorkshire President among a host of other special guests. A Charter dinner is held every year to celebrate the founding of the club, but this one was extra special and enjoyed by all who attended. Pictured are Wakefield Club Presidents Mrs C Speeden and Mrs J Alce with the Mayoress and Consort

Healthy Living Talk 2009

We had a speaker from Healthy Living on Thursday 9th July; the benevolent fund speaker broke her arm and could not drive so Sheena bravely stepped in to entertain and inform us. We did chair exercises to keep us fit and quiz about exercise. It was a good laugh as you can see from the group picture.

Christmas Party 2009

SI Wakefield celebrated Christmas “Italian- style” at local Gavi Ristorante and Pizzeria. Members enjoyed genuine Italian Christmas fayre and were invited by President Amanda to enter the Christmas Bonnet competition which was won by member Barbara Dawes (seated: front right). The customary raffle made a significant contribution to “75 for 75.”

"75 for 75" is a national Soroptimist challenge to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Soroptimism in Great Britain and Ireland. The aim is for each club to raise £75 to help provide 75 water and/or sanitation projects in developing countries in partnership with Water Aid.
