Soroptimists Walk for Hospices

On Sunday 7th April 2013 members of SI Wakefield participated in the 3rd Rotary Navigation 20 mile Sponsored Walk along the banks of the Calder and Hebble canal between Horbury in the East and Sowerby Bridge to raise funds for the four West Yorkshire Hospices which provide excellent service to the public of Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield namely, Overgate Hospice, Kirkwood Hospice, Wakefield Hospice and the Forget Me Not Children's Hospice. Each Hospice will be receiving an equal share of the total money was raised by the event.

International Women's Day 2013

Wakefield Hosted the Soroptimist International of Yorkshire regional International Women's Day celebration event this year with a rally on Chantry Bridge, Wakefield on Saturday March 9th 2013. In attendance was Wakefield Mayor Cllr Mrs Blezard and Yorkshire SI President Julie Thompson. The themes were 'Women for Peace' and 'Stop the Traffik', against modern-day slavery and sexual exploitation of women.

Charter Lunch March 2013

Soroptimist Wakefield members enjoyed their annual Charter Lunch 2013 at the Holiday Inn, Ossett on 3rd March 2013. Plans are already afoot for next year's extra special charter celebrations, marking the 80th anniversary of the club's founding.

Christmas Boxes 2012

For the last five years, SI Wakefield has prepared Christmas boxes of food, gifts and other necessities to be distributed among recently homeless young people. We hope to continue this tradition in 2012.

Plant sale for Zimbabwe 2012

At the home of SI member Linda, a plant sale was held to raise money for SI KweKwe in Zimbabwe. The money raised was to travel with President Judith and four other SI Yorkshire members on a trip to Zimbabwe later in 2012. SI Yorkshire region is twinned with SI Zimbabwe and helps support its Programme Action work.

Cheque presentation to Young Carers 2012

SI Wakefield members have long supported Barnardos Young Carers. A cheque was presented at Wakefield Town Hall with members of Young Carers and Wakefield Youth Council present.

Sainsburys Cookery Demonstration 2012

Club members attended a cookery demonstration given by the Sainsburys Wakefield Try team. The demonstration included two starters, two main courses and three sweets. Every person present had the opportunity to taste every dish. Delicious!

Air Ambulance Cheque Presentation 2012

As a result of the Sainsburys cookery demonstration, members of SI Wakefield were able to present a cheque for £300 to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, A cause supported by Sainsburys and the Wakefield Mayor. The presentation took place at Sainsburys store Wakefield.
