A free self-management course for parents of children with disabilities, special needs or long- term health conditions.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is for parents, guardians and carers of children with disabilities, long term health conditions or special needs. It recognises that parent carers have their own needs, which if left unrecognised and unaddressed, leaves them open to high levels of stress and ill health.

What will you need to do?

Attend a session for two and a half hours a week, for six weeks and take part in group discussions, or activities. More importantly - meet new people, have fun, and feel better.

  • How can the course benefit you?

    The course provides tried andtested skills which have helped parents / carers cope better and improve family health and quality of life. Course participants have the option to go on to further training to become accredited volunteer course tutors.

    What can you expect?

    • Each session lasts two and a half hours in total and is very informal. There is a short break where refreshments will be available.
    • Most people have found the course enjoyable and helpful in improving family health and quality of life.
    • After completing the course you will receive a certificate of attendance.
    • All participants will be given the opportunity to apply to become a volunteer tutor as part of their personal development.
