BARRACKS COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER
From the editor
Sorry for the delay in issuing this
newsletter there has been a slight
problem with the printing.
The Wakefield Tenants and Residents
Federation who printed our newsletters
are no longer in business.
WDH have stepped in and kindly printed
this newsletter.
LUNCHEON CLUB
The Sunday luncheon club is proving to
be a success I have started to hold one
mid week see back page for more details.
We did have a visit from Joy Lloyd to
one of the lunches and she was most
impressed. So much so that I understand
Joy returned two weeks later with Karen
Lindop . An open invitation has been
sent to Karen Roscoe who wishes to
visit the luncheon club.
I have also sent an invitation to Kevin
Dodd chief executive of WDH. He has
said he would like to drop in one
Tuesday
I have also been asked what we are
doing on Christmas Day. Answer …Watch
this space.
JIGSAW LIBRARY

DID YOU KNOW
Did you know that the average chocolate
bar in the U.S. contains at least 8
pieces of an insect in it? Harvesting
of the cacao beans occurs in the
tropical countries of South America
with low sanitation levels. Cacao tree
beans are cut and piled in the farmer's
field where they ferment for 6 days.
During this process, children and
adults walk over the piles; insects,
rodents, small animals and other living
things that make their nests in the
piles. Actually the U. S. Department of
Health publishes a book entitled "The
Food Defect Action Levels" in which
they list unavoidable defects in food
(insect, rodents etc.) all allowed by
FDA.
(Hope your not about to tuck into a
chocolate bar right now)

THE GREAT WALL MYTH
It is common mistake to say that The
Great wall of China is visible from
outer space. It is too thin to be
noticed from such a great distance.
Only two man made structures visible
from space are: The Pyramids of Giza
and the Hoover Dam.

The longest recorded flight of a

13 seconds!

SCORES ON THE DOORS
After a visit from WMDC environmental
health officer I am registered as a
home caterer for the purpose of cooking
for the luncheon club and passed the
health inspectors inspection I was
awarded my Hygiene star rating of 5
stars (excellent). The only
recommendation made by the
environmental health officer was that I
obtain and complete a copy of The Food
Standards Agency
Safer Food Better Business pack. Which
I have now received and completed.
