About the Incredible Edible Wakefield website
At www.Incredible-Edible-
Wakefield.co.uk you’ll find
something
for everyone interested in growing
edibles or eating local food.
The IEW map shows the places
where there are Community Growing
groups planting and growing edibles
around the City already and on our
Incredible Edible Schools page
you’ll find school allotments,
gardening clubs and even school farms,
complete with cows, pigs, turkeys and
hens.
Allotments may be over-
subscribed in
many areas but there are still ways to
get involved. Find out how to get
together with friends and neighbours to
set up your own or take a look at the
Landshare page to find out how to
connect with landowners, growers and
helpers wanting to get growing.
There
are also Community Supported
Agriculture schemes providing
opportunities for individuals to get
involved with local growing businesses.
Swap, Shop and Recycle is about
finding
ways to trade spare crops, equipment,
seeds etc, with our Local food
heroes’
directory and map you can find the
businesses growing or rearing local
food where you live and in our
Forum
you can share ideas with like-minded
people.
Urban Fruit Harvesting is
about
collecting surpluses from wild fruit
trees and bushes and distributing them
to community groups and charities,
whereas Wild Food Foraging is
about
finding out how to identify less well
known edible plants and fungi in the
wild.
Once you know what you’re looking for,
the Wild food Map is an
interactive
Google map showing where to find wild
fruit trees around Wakefield and
allowing you to add your own locations.
If all else fails and you can’t find
anything going on in your area on the
What's going on page there’s
always
Guerilla Gardeners with their
naughty
edibles springing up everywhere!
