Whats On
On Sunday October 7th the Friends of Haw Park Wood organised an activity for all the family - leaf collecting and identifying.
Setting Up
It was a lovely sunny day when Val, John and Peter set up their stall in Anglers Countryside carpark.
As visitors came in they were invited to take a plastic bag, paper and pencil and see how many different leaves they could collect and identify as they enjoyed their walk.
Collections
The sun shone all day and over 50 families took bags around with them.
Phyllis and Val were there at the end of the day when 16 bags of leaves were returned.
Leaves Galore
Back in the Discovery Centre each collection was spread out on the table.
Over 50 different leaves had been collected, from aspen to vetch, and from a wide variety of locations - woods, grassland, hedges and marsh.
Find the Winner
It took Val, Cynthia and Phyllis some time to sort through all the leaves. Luckily Ranger Dave Mee was on hand to help.
The winners were Joshua and Lucy who collected 28 different leaves and Nicola who identified 19. Well done to everyone who took part.
