AGM and Party

The first Annual General Meeting of the Friends of Haw Park Wood was held in the Discovery Centre at Anglers Country Park.

A good turn-out

Twenty three members came along to the meeting which started with reports of the activities to date.

The existing officers were re-elected to serve for another year.

Mick Birkinshaw

Mick, from the Wakefield Badger Group gave a most interesting and informative talk on badgers in the area.

He described their physical characteristics, social set-up, eating habits and breeding patterns.

He used a powerpoint presentation to show photographs of local badger families.

Although there are still problems with road traffic and badger digging, setts are now protected by law and the badger population is doing well in some parts of the District.

A special birthday cake, decorated with the Friends new logo, had been made for the occasion.

Phyllis, Chair of the Friends, cut the cake and started the 'first birthday' celebrations.

The committee provided bottles of red and white wine for all to enjoy.

Rose and friends had brought a selection of savoury and sweet food. A good time was had by all.
