Grade 14 and 13 competitions were held
at Wetherby Gymnastics Club, Boston Spa.
In the Regional Club Grade 14 Amy
Henderson, Lauren Morley, Robyn
Campbell, Alex Mason and Lydia Howie
all achieved a pass mark.
Bethany Turner was ranked
5 on floor, 4 on bars, and 2 on beam.
An unfortunate fall during Range and
Conditioning cost Bethany the overall
gold leaving her with bronze.
In the Regional Club Grade 13
Megan Parsley was ranked 1 on
vault, 2 on beam and floor taking the
overall silver medal. Rhiannon
Hepworth was ranked 6 on vault, 4
on beam and floor, 3 on Range and
Conditioning taking the overall bronze
medal. Phoebe
Banks, Sophie Barrington, Maia Ellis,
Natalie Moore, Holly Brooke and Alice
Dewhirst all achieved a pass mark.
Two for National
Finals
The annual Yorkshire Gymnastics
grading competition, the first on the
competition calendar, was held under a
completely
revised National Development Plan at
Diamonds Gymnastics Club in Halifax.
Both the level of difficulty and the
deductions for
mistakes have increased and the need to
pass separately the apparatus work and
conditioning exercise at 74% added
another
dimension.
Airedale based Featherstone
Gymnastics club fielded an entry of 5
gymnasts with excellent results.
In the National Club Grade 8 Lucy
Amery was one of only 14 to pass the
grade at the first attempt. Charlotte
Bramleywas
ranked 6th overall with a score of
45.05, a mere 0.55 and 11% short on
conditioning from joining the team at
the final,
whilst Ella Calvert,20 months younger
was ranked 8th with a score of 44.75
but 9.25% short on conditioning. Both
Charlotte
and Ella were allowed to re-sit
conditioning and pass the grade.
In the National Club Grade 6 Rachel
Beanland was ranked 2nd on vault, bars,
and floor, 3rd on beam, 4th on
conditioning
and silver medal overall with a place
in the Yorkshire team for the National
final to be held at the end of April in
Birmingham. Kate Clover was ranked 2nd
on beam and took the bronze medal on
conditioning to be ranked 5th overall
and
selected as travelling reserve for the
National Final.
Silver for Ella
The 2008 Yorkshire Level 5
(Intermediate) gymnastics competition
held at York attracted 81
competitors.
Airedale based Featherstone
Gymnastics Club was represented by 4
gymnasts, who all gave a terrific
performance.
The 8-9-10 year old age group was a
closely fought competition where the
medallists were separated by less than
1%. Ella Calvert, aged 9 of Sherburn,
took gold on bars, silver on floor, and
bronze on vault. A single fall from
beam resulted in 4th place, costing the
overall gold leaving Ella with the
overall silver. Lucy Amery, aged 9 of
Ackworth, managed to stay on the beam,
despite a couple of large wobbles to be
ranked 4th. Whilst Lucy has improved
her vaulting to be ranked 4th, an
untidy bar routine and well executed
floor routine short of two requirements
ranked Lucy 11th of 18.
Ebony Naylor, aged 11 of Rothwell,
performed well on floor to be ranked
4th of 26 in the 11-12 age group. An
excellent vault was ranked 6th, only
0.2 behind the gold medallist. An
uncharacteristic slip on the dismount
from the bars cost the gold medal and 6
places whilst two falls from beam meant
that any hope of an overall medal
disappeared, ranking Ebony a
respectable 8th. .
Rita Yates, aged 13 of Pontefract,
gave a consistently good all round
performance in the 13+ age group to be
ranked 5th of 30 competitors. Sadly,
one floor move was deemed incomplete
which lost the gold medal whilst a
solid beam routine was only 0.2 behind
silver.
Bronze medal for
Megan
Megan Parsley, aged 8 of
Woodlesford, performed exceptionally
well at the 2008 Yorkshire Regional
Final
for Level 6 (Novice) held at Dewsbury.
Ranked first on Beam, second on floor
by a mere 0.05, second on vault and
fifth on Bars she took a well deserved
overall bronze medal. In the age
9 & 10 age group, Rachael Millett ,
aged 10 of Pontefract, in a closely
fought competition was ranked first on
Vault, fifth on Floor, sixth on bars
but a fall from Beam cost her the
overall gold leaving her ranked
fourth. Victoria Partridge, aged
13 of Castleford, improved her scores
above those in the qualifying sub-
regional competition being ranked fifth
on Floor. Beam, was the exception,
where a fall and a resulting loss of
two required moves meant that medals
rapidly disappeared out of sight
leaving her ranked thirteenth.
9 medals and 3 for
Regional FinalThe 2008 West
Yorkshire Level 6 competition held at
Dewsbury attracted 95 gymnasts
competing in 5 age groups with the top
6 in each age group being selected to
represent the sub region at the
Regional final. Airedale based
Featherstone Gymnastics Club were
represented by 10 gymnasts, 3 of whom
were selected for the Regional
Final. In the age 7 and 8
section, Rhiannon Hepworth, aged 8 of
Castleford, had a good all round
competition; an excellent beam routine
with no falls was rewarded with the
gold medal. Rhiannon was ranked 4th
overall and selected for the regional
final. Sadly, Rhiannon is unavailable
for the final and is replaced by Megan
Parsley, aged 8 of Woodlesford, who was
ranked 7th. Megan took gold on both
floor and vault but 3 mistakes on bars
lost her the silver medal. Phoebe Banks
aged 7 from Swillington was also in
contention, she took silver on floor
and bronze on vault to be ranked
8th In the age 9 and 10
section, Rachael Millett aged 10 of
Pontefract, performed consistently well
to take silver medal on both floor and
vault to be ranked 4th overall with a
place in the regional final. A superb
vault from Dariella Boswell, aged 9 of
Normanton, was rewarded with a gold
medal to be ranked 24th, closely
followed by Sophie Barrington aged 9 of
Pontefract, who was ranked 26th.
Natalie Moore, aged 10 of Pontefract
was ranked 36th. Holly Brooke
aged 11 of Beal, is developing well,
ranked 4th on both bars and vault, 9th
on both floor and beam to be ranked
7th, scoring well with 42.32, only 0.37
from the final. At 13+ ,
Victoria Partridge aged 13 of
Castleford, took silver on bars to be
ranked 6th with a place in the regional
final, whilst Sarah Wain aged 14 of
Matlock with 2 falls from beam dropped
from 6th to 9th.
3 distinctions at
Regional GradesThe first
Yorkshire Women’s Artistic competition
for 2008 attracted an entry of over 200
gymnasts for the National Development
Plan grades 6 and 5. Thirty nine
gymnasts who were born in 2000 competed
in grade 6 at York. Airedale
based Featherstone gymnastics Club was
represented by three gymnasts who all
performed exceptionally well to pass
with distinction for scoring over 85%:
Phoebe Banks, the youngest
competitor, was ranked 7th, Megan
Parsley was ranked 10th and
Rhiannon Hepworth was ranked
12th. Phoebe was ranked 3rd on
conditioning (92%), 5th on vault (94%),
6th on beam (84.44%) with no falls to
be ranked 7th overall. Megan was
scored well in conditioning (86.3%) let
down by wrong leg splits, was ranked
4th on vault (94.4%), 2nd on bars with
an incredble 97%, 3rd on beam (87.8%)
with no falls but a couple of mistakes
on floor resulted in 10th overall
Rhiannon was ranked
4th on conditioning (91.11%) , 4th on
vault (94.4%) 9th on bars with an
exceptional 95.55%, but failure to
mount the beam at the first attempt and
an unusual fall during the beam
routine, despite a recovery on floor
ranked 12th (81.5%) resulted in 12th
overall
Silver for Holly,
distinction for SophieThe first
Yorkshire Women’s Artistic competition
for the year attracted an entry of over
200 gymnasts for the National
Development Plan grades 6 and 5. The
grade 6 gymnasts who were born earlier
than 2000 and grade 5 gymnasts who were
born earlier than 1999 competed at
Dewsbury. Airedale based
Featherstone gymnastics Club was
represented by four gymnasts. In
the Age 9 section of Grade 6, Sophie
Barrington performed exceptionally
well, with no falls from the beam,
being one of only 9 gymnasts to pass
with distinction for scoring over 85
per cent. She was ranked 9th of 21
competitors. Dariella Boswell
failed to mount the beam at the first
attempt but an otherwise good all round
performance ranked her 14th with a
comfortable pass for scoring 80 per
cent with the pass rate set at 74 per
cent. Holly Brooke
competed in the age 11 section of grade
6 which had 18 competitors. An
excellent all round
performance with no falls from beam
ranked Holly 5th on Conditioning, 3rd
on floor and the top scorer on bars to
be not only one of 9 gymnasts to pass
with distinction but also take the
silver medal for this age group, a mere
1.12 per cent away from gold.
Victoria Partridge was one of 19
gymnasts competing in the age 11and
over section of grade 5. A consistent
all round performance, highlighted by a
good vault produced a good pass for
scoring 82 per cent to be ranked
11th.
