Dogs for the Disabled is a national charity (registration number 1092960) which trains assistance dogs to enable disabled children and adults to lead independent lives. Our dogs help with a range of practical tasks from picking up dropped items to unloading the washing machine and opening and shutting doors.
Although the charity is based in Oxfordshire, we have recently opened a new training centre in Nostell, Wakefield, where we will be training new dogs and matching them with disabled people in order to create new partnerships! This new centre will benefit disabled people across the North of England who could be leading more active, independent and sociable lives with the help of an assistance dog.
We are looking for local community groups, individuals and businesses to get involved in helping us to raise awareness of the charity in the Wakefield area and to raise funds to keep our new centre going. We are also able to provide talks and demonstrations of the work that our dogs to and are happy to visit clubs, groups, schools and businesses. We are also looking for volunteers to help out in a range of ways and are happy to chat to anyone who would like to consder helping this pioneering charity train more dogs, create more partnerships and support our existing teams across the North of England now and in the future.
