November 2008
Local artist, Les Packham, gives a demonstration

Before the meeting began, members of Crofton Art Group had time to browse the stalls.

Looking at books available to buy or borrow

Choosing items from the Art Shop

Or buying a raffle ticket

Chris reminded everyone about future events, workshops, socials and the forthcoming exhibition before introducing the guest artist

There was a good turnout with 34 members ready to pick up tips on colour, composition and techniques.

Local artist, Les Packham, did a quick preliminary sketch of a farmhouse scene, followed by a yellow wash.

He described his methods of painting - in his studio, for groups or in the field.

Using a tissue, Les lifted out colour to improve the cloudscape.

With added tints to the foreground and hills, the picture was taking shape.

During the coffee break Les passed round copies of a calendar illustrated with his paintings of Yorkshire scenes.

Then it was back to work, adding strength of colour and tone to draw the eye into the centre of the picture.

Memebrs had the opportunity of looking through his sketch books.

As finishing touches and adding extra interest Les included some winter trees and detail on the dry stone wall.

Everyone was impressed with the finished picture as Pete gave a vote of thanks.

The lucky raffle-prize winners.
