Before the demonstration Chris presented Jan with a prize for 'popular picture' in the exhibition

There was a full house - with members keen to improve their pastel techniques.

Irving started by describing some of the pastels he would use.....

on his prepared sketch of a cheetah from a photograph.

There's a whole variety - including pencils for detail.

Working from light to dark he gradually built up the animal's fur.

Painting in the eyes gives life to the picture

More details are added to the face

At tea break, Pat was on kitchen duty.

Members had time to shop as well as take refreshments.

Then Irving continued adding more and more details .....

.. until the picture was finished. All agreed it was a perfect portrait.
