September 2010
Dave Woolas made a welcome return to demonstrate an autumn landscape.

Dave started by covering much of the paper in yellow, using Dave's Rag.

The versatility of Dave's rag and the importance of choosing the right paper were explained.

New equipment, a camera and screen, had been set up so that everyone could see as work progressed

Dave took time to describe the techniques he used and give advice on choices of colour as well as the need to practice.

Using a small rigger brush he painted impressions of tree trunks in the distance.

Candle wax was used to keep some areas light .....

..... these became more obvious as darker colours were added.

Although Dave works from photographs, he doesn't make exact copies, prefering to create an impression of the scene.

The finishing touches ... adding leaves and shadows, working on negative shapes ... took quite some time.

The end result was worth the wait. Cynthia gave the vote of thanks, especially for the reminder about Dave's rag!
