Local artist Dave Newbould gives a portrait painting demonstration to a large gathering.
Dave started by telling the group how he began drawing portraits at about the age of 18. Musicians were his main interest and his sketches in white chalk on black paper were very effective.
Much later in life he took up serious portrait painting and found the older generation most interesting.
Before the actual demonstration Dave presented one of his paintings as a birthday gift to one of our members, a present from his wife.
He then started on a portrait of an old man, using sepia ink on charcoal grey paper by means of a cotton bud!
Next he used watercolours and pastels to bring life to the picture, all the while keeping his audience amused with anecdotes and jokes.
Everyone admired the finished portrait of an elderly gent, complete with poppy.
During the break Chris and Jan were delighted to receive a cheque from Wakefield & District Housing. The organisation likes to help community projects.
Dave's second demonstration was a 'live' sitter.
The group was most impressed with finished portrait - in charcoal with white highlights on grey paper.
Though everyone agreed that our member was generally much smilier than portrayed. Thanks to Dave for an excellent - and very entertaining - session.
