Aims of the Group
Members of Crofton Art Group met at the Community Centre for a demonstration by Irving Penvose
There was a good attendance on November 27th
for Irving's first visit to Crofton Art Group
An overhead projector is used for the initial drawing taken from a photograph - this one was a pair of wolves.
Irving specialises in animal portraits, often taking hundreds of photos before getting the one that's just right
He uses pastels on velour paper. As he painted he gave hints and advice - always work in the direction of the fur.
He also advised on what to buy - it's not necessary to get the most expensive.
During the tea break members bought raffle tickets for the selection of prizes.
They also took the opportunity of using the group's shop and library.
Back to work, Irving used charcoal for ears, eyes and noses whilst talking about how he got into painting.
He explained how he twists the pencil to get depth to the fur as he put in the final details.
The picture is finished
and Irving kindly donated it to the group for a future raffle prize.
