Councillor Tony Wallis biography

Tony Wallis is a member of the Labour Party and was first elected a Councillor in 2000. In his first year he won a prize from the Local Government Association for his essay about the future of local government.

Born in 1951 Tony has lived in Castleford all his life. He spent his childhood in the Potteries and after living in Airedale moved to Glasshoughton.

Tony attended Normanton Grammar School and at University obtained an upper second class honours degree in Science and Technology.

He worked in the laboratories of the National Coal Board and moved to Yorkshire Water analysing drinking water.

A member of several local groups including the Smawthorne Welfare Action Team (SWAT) and the Glasshoughton and Redhill Residents' Group (GREAT), both which he started.

Tony is a founder member of FOCAL (The Friends of Castleford Library)and a vice chair of both the Castleford Heritage Trust and Castleford Civic Trust, having campaigned for several years for a new library and museum building in Castleford.

Since 1998, he has also run a website about Castleford now called mycastleford.com (currently offline as hosting company has finished.)

Tony was Mayor 2010-2011.
