Society Photographs

A photograph showing members of the Society during the Welbeck Street archaeological excavations of the Roman vicus, the civilian settlement, in October 1968. The buildings in the background are the backs of shops on Carlton Street and on the right the side of Trinity Methodist Church on Powell Street can be seen. The site of the dig was later occupied by the British Legion Club.

A view of a part of Bridge Street taken in 1968. On the left of the picture is Francis Street leading to Grace's scrap yard and Castleford Nursery School. At the other side of Francis Street is the corner shop of J Laver, bookseller and newsagent, who also sold cigarettes and tobacco. Next to the newsagents is "Top Fashion", then "Flowers by Margaret". On the right, the end of Newbould's chemist can be seen. The date stone above the shops reads 1832.
