The Agbrigg & Belle Vue Community Association was formed by the earlier Area Based Strategy Group which was a local point of contact for funders and service providers, and provided support to other community groups, including residents groups such Police and Housing, Mela Gala, and Allotments.

The Agbrigg & Belle Vue Community Association was formed by the strategy group in order to receive larger grants and employ workers as part of a 3 year project to improve the area. The 3 year project was funded by The Coalfields Regeneration Trust, SRB6, ERDF, The Big Lottery and others. During this time it built the straw-bale eco-building and installed a decent fence around the allotments on Sugar Lane. These changes helped bring the allotments from about 70% empty to having a waiting list as well as reduce crime in the nearby sheltered housing. At the Oakenshaw allotments, fencing was installed around an area where horses were held, trees were provided and allotment holders planted an orchard.

Other community groups were supported including training for better employment, play schemes, providing health and financial advice, hosting public community meetings with police, housing and other service providers, supporting the Mela Gala group, providing a regular community party each year, a regular newsletter and a website.
