About Agbrigg Writers Group. The group combines expert tuition, practical writing exercises and projects. John Irving Clarke, a local poet, writer and former teacher, leads the tuition and exercises but it’s very hands-on for all participants in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. Generally, the projects have a local theme. We have already published one booklet of prose and poetry: “The real and imagined history of Upper Mill”. Upper Mill is within the grounds of The Hepworth Museum in Wakefield. We have also completed project work on Kirkgate Station (awaiting publication). We are currently working on the Lofthouse Colliery disaster of 1973

About the venue and meetings. We meet every Thursday between 1pm and 3pm at the Agbrigg and Belle Vue Community Centre in Wakefield. Agbrigg Community Centre is about 1.5 miles from the centre of Wakefield with good public transport links and ample car parking. The room is private, spacious and comfortable. The Community Centre has a café for refreshments. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps? client=safari&rls=en&oe=UTF- 8&redir_esc=&um=1&ie=UTF- 8&q=agbrigg+community+centre+wakefield&f b=1&gl=uk&hq=agbrigg+community+centre&hn ear=0x48795d6047fb0b31:0x71697d7cd4b2dac 8,Wakefield,+West+Yorkshire&cid=0,0,9281 627907310235431&sa=X&ei=gUMZUZrxEvCa1AXt yIFI&ved=0CHoQ_BIwAw

New Members Welcome. We’re looking to expand the group and new members are very welcome. Why not join us for a couple of free of charge sessions to see if it is something you want to develop ? We generally work in 10 week “terms” with a short break between each. At the moment in order to cover room costs and tuition, we charge £5 per person per session. However, we have a number of grant applications whereby we are hoping to reduce charges. All in all, we believe this is an inexpensive charge for a rewarding hobby. Why not join us ?
