Due to council budget cuts Wakefield Metropolitan District Council ceased to fund the Web site from 1st January 2017. However, Cravenplan (the creators of the site) are keeping it going free of charge with a view to raising some income from advertising.

Welcome to Wakefield District Community Online

The Wakefield District comprises Wakefield and its surrounding areas such as Woolley, Walton, Netherton, Horbury and Ossett, as well as the South East area which includes towns and villages such as Hemsworth, Crofton, South Elmsall and South Kirkby and the Five Towns of Normanton, Pontefract, Featherstone, Castleford and Knottingley. The District covers some 350 square kilometres and is home to 315,000 people in a range of city, urban and rural communities. The purpose of Wakefield District Community Online is to bring this vibrant and diverse community together on the web.

Using Wakefield District Community Online residents of the Wakefield District can explore a searchable directory of community groups, clubs & voluntary organisations. Find out what is happening near you by searching the events guide for community events - from village galas, local sports events and farmers markets to larger events such as the Pontefract Liquorice Festival or Wakefield’s Rhubarb Festival. Check the site regularly – the events guide and the community clubs directory are growing all the time!

The aim of WDCO is to empower community groups across the Wakefield District, alongside the residents of Wakefield, by providing an online platform for community information. Groups can build, develop and maintain their own website for free, add items to the District news, advertise jobs and upload information about their events – all at no cost – which residents of the District can browse at their leisure
